…BUT B&W FILM REMAINS MY FAVORITE.

Large Format Cameras

I love to design and build cameras and I love to share my designs with others. It’s a joy to be able to fulfill your dreams

Large format camera 4x5, 5x7, 8x10, free plans, diagrams, schematics

During the past one year I built two 4×5 cameras, a rail and a field camera. I know there are many of you who would like to build a large format camera, have a CNC or a lace cutter and/or a 3D printer, but are not so good at CAD design.

I release these plans for free, for non-commercial purposes. Please read the terms and conditions below, as well as the readme file in the archive.

I will soon make a step-by-step tutorial on how to make and assemble the two cameras.

About Me

Teaching

Curently I’m a teacher on Measurements and Optoelectronics Department, Electronics Telecommunications and Information Technologies, Politehnica University Timisoarateaching electronics, electrical and electronical measurements, biomedical electronics, computer network architecture, computer programming, optoelectronics and photography courses.

Photography

I’m starting to take pictures at the age of seven with a 6×4.5 camera made by Romanian manufacturer IOR. At fifteen years I earn my first money from photography (using a Smena 8M camera), developing and enlarging the films by myself.

In 2008, with my friend Theodor Bacus I put the foundation of a photography group, which later was called FotoVest, an groupfull of enthusiast photographesr who meet and go to shoot every Saturday morning.

In 2009 I organized, together with my two good friends (Dorin Godja and Valentin Arfire), the “PanoTools 2009” Conference in Timisoara, Romania.

In 2010 I started teaching photography courses at Fundatia Regionala de Interes Public “Sine Ira”, Timisoara.

Between 2011 and 2014 I was permanently invited to speak about photography technics on “PhotoShow” TV Show at Romanian Television. Some of the episodes can be viewed here.

Starting with 2013 I organized free photography curses and workshops.

Airmodels

I started to build flying machines in my childhood. Now I build and fly different multicopters and airplanes. Mot of the multicopters I fly are my own design (initially made in SolidWorks and later on Fusion360). I also made some research about improving the flight time of the multicopters, publishing my results in a scientific paper.
Starting from 2018 I’m the president of Romanian Airmodel Association.

Research

As a researcher, I’m cowriter on 5 books and more than 20 papers published in magazines and conferences. I’m also reviewer on Elsevier publications. My research is mainly focused on photovoltaic panels, solar irradiance measurements and prediction, power network quality measurements, AC motor parameters measurement.

Business

In 2008 I started, along with my friends above mentioned, a Photography business mainly based on 360 panoramic photography (some of the newest aerial panoramas made in collaboration with Eye in the Sky can be admired here). I shutdown my business in 2016 because I wanted to focus entirely on teaching activity.
